# Licenses and provenance

The original contributions to Comix Zone Native are offered under
**PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0**, as reproduced in `LICENSE`.
Required Notice: Copyright (c) 2026 Comix Zone Native authors.
This applies only to rights held by the contributors. It does not replace
upstream terms or grant rights in Sega's game, generated translations of its
code, graphics, music, characters or trademarks. This is a noncommercial,
source-available project; the entire combined tree is not MIT-licensed.

## Included components

Revisions and upstream URLs are in `PINNED_SOURCES.json`. The exact public
vendor files and their SHA-256 values are in `PUBLIC_SOURCE_FILES.json`.
No upstream license text or copyright notice has been removed or relicensed.
The following paths are relative to the root of this source tree.

The framework's unchanged `THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.md` describes a larger upstream
repository. Optional netplay, launcher, other-game fixtures and the separate
z80-recomp-core are not included in this subset. It is not an inventory of
only the files shipped here. See `VENDOR-SUBSET.md` for the subset boundary.

## Distribution boundary

This package contains source, tests, numeric qualification reports and our
controller-input tapes. It contains no ROM, generated game C, game executable,
game screenshots, recorded audio, state dumps or third-party TAS/manual files.
Users provide the required ROM separately and generate the game code locally.
Owning a cartridge does not by itself establish permission to redistribute
the game or a translated executable; this project's license grants no such
permission. The packaged local `.app` contains both a ROM and a compiled
translation, and is not the public source artifact.

Before any future binary distribution, separately check game-content rights,
all corresponding-source requirements (including bundled SDL), and the LGPL
relinking/notice obligations for the actual link configuration. A source ZIP
alone is not a reviewed binary release. This file records the included texts
and distribution boundary; it is not a legal opinion or a guarantee of rights.
